Degree show pitch

I took a couple of days to help with a pitch for a degree show. I built this basic geometric model of the layout based on the floor plans for the venue and Jodi's sketches. The ultimate plan is to have a full flythrough with animated explanations of how to use the central hub, as an introductory video for visitors. I figured it was worth posting my progress on that on this blog as well, as it is pretty much another whole project.

Research

Spent the last few days doin some visual research to try and help define the visual style. I posted a few key photos and ideas up on the group blog, and added a link to the full collection so far on the forum. I mainly looked into Native American art and culture, as I think this would be a fitting theme for our style considering the setting of Arizona.

The Life and Art of North American Indians, John Anson Warner proved a goldmine of a resource, as it contains hundreds of images of objects, clothing, landscapes, and artworks. The most appropriate can be found on the zip folder linked to the forum, and I explained the key ideas on the group blog.

Third year begins..

The nature of the third year seems to be a lot more varied than the first two years- multiple films are in production already and those of us who are not directing are encouraged to work on as many of them as necissary. So to start this blog off I think it would be best to summarise exactly what I have resolved to do with my time this year.

There are two primary films I will contribute towards: Red Rock (working title), and Gnomes. Two beautifully simple stories; Red Rock is more of an environmental piece, focusing on lavish landscapes, whereas Gnomes is more of a character piece, playing out a miniture romance over a garden pond. Check the links to the blogs and forums for a more detailed synopsis of both.

If time allows, I also intend to do some rigging on other films such as Polished Off, and Splay.

Short films aside, I have several other units to attend to, the most time consuming of these being my dissertation, so careful personal scheduling is going to be a neccessity.

Anyway, my first update on the work towards the films is going to have to be a short one, as both films are still in the stage of finalising the stories. As no-one seems to have taken on the producers role for either yet, I feel I mite have to jump in and try my hand at organising some production schedules, otherwise I fear deadlines might not be met. Plus as I feel my talents aren't really geared towards conceptualizing or storyboarding, it would perhaps make more sense for me to do other roles. At least through this preproduction phase.
